Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates, originally called ‘Contrology’, is a movement method designed by Joseph Pilates. His method was guided by 3 principles

  1. Whole Body Health = This incorporates the whole body including mind, body and spirit which work in coordination with one another
  1. Whole Body Commitment = This refers to the mental and physical discipline it takes to achieve whole body health.
  1. Breath = Joseph Pilates believed that “above all else, one should learn to breathe properly”. Breathing facilitates proper body functioning, circulation, oxygenation, energy, relaxation, cleansing, detoxification and cell rejuvenation.

Modern Pilates instructors still aim to teach according to these principles as it is believed that mastering these principles leads to optimal health and body functioning. If you would like to read more about some of the amazing benefits of Pilates and how it is more than just about moving your body, read my blog post Ah Pilates… So much more than a workout!

  • Additionally, please note that Grip Socks must be worn to attend Pilates sessions. This is both for hygiene and safety reasons. See below for recommendations.

While you can find some cheaper grip socks at stores such as Kmart, my recommendation is to purchase socks from the ToeSox range as they have the best grip, are comfortable, and come in a variety of colours and styles. If you would like to browse the range Click Here and if you choose to purchase, this link will also get you 10% off or you can use code BellaB10 at the checkout.
